Who Are We?

The purpose of our organization is to act as a support and friendship building network for the Maquiladora women and the women of Maquiladora support industries. We also promote goodwill and fellowship between the Texas Upper Rio Grande Valley and Reynosa, Mexico.

The Maquila Women's Association was established in 1987 and is a non-profit organization.

Many of us are here due to job relocation and we know it can be difficult to assimilate into a new life in unfamiliar territory. Most of us have left our family and friends behind and we understand how stressful change can be. The Maquila Women's Association offers a great opportunity to ease the transition. Having a good time is an important part of the Maquila Women's Association. Our monthly meetings include pot-luck dinners, wine tastings and brunches. We often have guest speakers from around the community and we show our support to several charities in the Upper Rio Grande Valley as well as Reynosa, Mexico.

If you have just relocated to the "Valley" or are planning to relocate, we are here for you. We are 50 plus members strong and we are women of various backgrounds and ages. We can help with such things as finding a doctor, babysitter, handyman or anything else you may need. The greatest gift we can offer you is letting you know you are not alone. The women of MWA are not only friends, we are a family! We meet twice a month. The 1st Tuesday of the month is social brunch and the 3rd Tuesday is the regular meeting.
